The theme of the Africa Regional Preparatory Conference of the WSIS is "Access, Africa's key to an inclusive Information Society". Session 2 of the Conference included a parallel workshop on indicators and benchmarking.

Prior to the Conference, a regional meeting on ICT indicators was held on 31 January 2005 to finalize discussions on the indicators that came out of Botswana (26-29 October 2004) and prepare a report for the African ministers.
