organized by the Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development

27-29 May, 10h00 - 18h00
Room XXV, Palais des Nations, Geneva

The 2008 Global Event on Measuring the Information Society was organized by the Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development to discuss the latest progress made in ICT measurement globally.

The Global Event considered proposals for new core ICT indicators on education, revisions made to the indicators included in the existing core ICT list, impact measurements, the development of a global ICT database, and technical capacity building needs.

The Global Event was addressed to representatives from government offices responsible for ICT statistics, telecommunication authorities, ICT-related Ministries, as well as other stakeholders interested in the measurement of the information society.

On the occasion of the Global Event, the Partnership released its publication "The Global Information Society: A statistical view", which showed the progress made on ICT measurement worldwide.

The Global Event was included in the cluster of WSIS-related events 2008 that took place in Geneva. There was also an invitation-only side-event on e-government measurement by the eGovMoNet network.
