13-24 July, 08h30 - 18h00
UNECA Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

UNCTAD and ITU are jointly delivering a training course on ICT statistics for Anglophone African Countries, organized with the support of UNECA, to be held from 13 to 24 July 2009 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The course is aimed at statistical officials from Anglophone Africa. Attendance to the course is by invitation only and there will be 25 participants from 18 countries.

The course in Addis aims at improving the capacity of official data producers in developing countries to produce internationally comparable statistics on ICT. These statistics support ICT for development policies in countries.

The course will include interactive discussions of the concepts related to measuring the information society, and practical exercises. At the end of the course, participants will become familiar with the internationally agreed core list of ICT indicators, and with the institutional and methodological framework needed to carry out ICT statistical work.

UNCTAD, ITU and UNECA are all members of the Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development. As a contribution to the Partnership's technical assistance activities, UNCTAD developed a Training Course on the Production of Statistics on the Information Economy, while ITU developed a Training Course on Measuring ICT Access and Use by Households and Individuals. At the occasion of the training course, the third phase of UNECA’s Scan-ICT programme will be launched on Saturday 18 July.
